The San Sebastian International Film Festival closed its successful 73rd edition with more than 170,000 people filling the cinemas and more than 5,000 accredited members of the press and industry broadcasting and promoting the stories screened.
The Kursaal Auditorium was once again the epicentre of the event, hosting the Official Selection, the opening and closing galas, and the presentation of the Donostia Award to Jennifer Lawrence and Esther García. The venue demonstrated its versatility; the terrace and foyer became stages for photocalls; the multipurpose rooms hosted press conferences, presentations and the Industry Club; and the box office served the public at a festival overflowing with excitement and cinema.
The winners were led by Los domingos / Sundays (Spain-France), by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, which won the Golden Shell. Jose Ramon Soroiz (Maspalomas) and Zhao Xiaohong (Her Heart Beats in Its Cage) received the Silver Shell ex aequo for best leading performance, while Joachim Lafosse took the Silver Shell for best director and the award for best screenplay for Six Days in Spring. The Special Jury Prize went to Historias del buen valle, by José Luis Guerin.
This edition was attended by international stars such as Angelina Jolie, Juliette Binoche, Paul Dano, Harris Dickinson and Colin Farrell, who helped to reinforce the festival's global profile.
