“Gallipoli”, title of the new album of the American band Beirut, is actually the name of a small town in Italy. During the recording, Zach Condon was in the fortified island of Gallipoli where he ran into a procession of winds preceded by some priests who carried the image of a saint through all the alleys of the city. The following day he composed the theme that guides the logic of the whole album, work that evokes a mixture of his old and new songs.
